Eddie Armstrong, aka Eddie Smokes, is a former Highland Park fireman that has always had a passion for smoking meats at the young age of 10. It all began after Eddie was using his dad’s gas grill and burned a hole at the bottom by using charcoal! Instead of his dad getting angry with him, he was humored by the incident & began to teach his son the art of grilling.
As he grew up, he continued to perfect his barbeque skills and would often cook for his fellow firemen at the Highland Park Firehouse. Eventually, Eddie started doing catering events & purchased a food trailer. It was then that he decided to turn his favorite hobby into a business and he called it Pig Out BBQ.
His first location was at Southfield Rd. and I-696. Although his new business was thriving during the warmer months, he couldn’t survive the winters because it was too difficult to grill. Eddie knew if he wanted to have a successful barbeque business, he needed a brick and mortar. So, he moved into a strip mall in Utica. After being there for a year or so, he moved back to his home roots to Southfield in July of 2018.
Eddie Smoke’s BBQ offers a wide variety of smoked dishes that range from his famous ribs to his yummy chicken tips and tasty sides such as baked mac & cheese and cheesy potatoes. All of his sauces are homemade and he uses barbeque methods that he has acquired from all of the country.
Eddie Smoke’s BBQ also offer catering, carry-outs and a variety of events such as our Dancing on the Patio with Easy Al every Thursday from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. weather permitting.
