Our Shared History

1933 - This building was originally a boat livery in 1933. It was owned by a German immigrant, Ray Hegle and his wife who rented boats and cooked fish that people caught. THey eventually added sandwiches and hamburgers to the menu. During WWII they started serving drinks and held hours for dancing and drinks with family and friends. The property was sold in 1945.

1945 - Sid's On the Seaway: The restaurants name was changed to Sid's on the Seaway (Sid's).

1976 - The Black Angus: Chucl Mattas (Mr. Mattas's son) bought into a Black Angus franchise and renamed the restaurant The Black Angus.

1978 - The Channel Marker: The restaurant was sold to a group of investors that changed the name to The Channel Marker. It was owned for a year and a half and was sold to the Brengman family.

1980 - Captain's II: The Brengman's already owned a restaurant named Captain's so this one become Captain's II. It was owned by many members of the Brengman and Morley families.

1993 - Anthony's: Mr. Jack Lietke bough the restaurant and his son-in-law, Anthony, operated the business.

1997 - McRae's Big River Grille: Mr. and Mrs. McRae bought the restaurant. For almost 20 years, we have offered exceptional service and a wonderful dining experience for every guest.

Today! - Big River Grille: The McRae family and team are dedicated to exceeding the expectations of every customer with friendly service, great food and fun!
