Stucco and Stone Siding Considerations
When it comes to your home there are several types of siding options. When most people hear siding, they think of the vinyl version sold in your local Hardware chain. The fact of the matter is that many homes that you admire while driving by have either stone or stucco siding. Stucco has a distinctive look and puts a seal around the home while stone siding will stand the test of time and maintain a regal look throughout. There are many things to consider if you choose to apply stucco or stone to the side of your home.
Stucco - At the most basic level stucco is a plaster that contains a cement base. Stucco is usually hand-troweled in three separate layers over framed walls or solid walls. The first application of stucco is evenly spread across a bed of wire mesh, paper and plywood sheathing. Wait a few days in between each fresh application. It is pertinent to remember that stucco must be water tight because if water creeps in the stucco will separate from the home. You can paint stucco if desired but it is advisable to paint during the drier and warmer months.
Stone - Stone is considered to be the most durable material to build with. Several of the world's longest lasting human built structures are made of stone. Granite, limestone, and slate are the most popular types of stone used in residential building. Stone is the most expensive way to cover the exterior of your home and for good reason. Stone will always enhance the value of your home and will always look as natural and beautiful as the day it was installed. Stone is one of the more difficult types of sidings to install.
Both stucco and stone sidings are a wonderful way to not only upgrade the look of your home but to bolster the value of your home as well. Stucco and stone siding projects can prove to be quite a large undertaking before all is said and done. Don't try and tackle either of these projects without experience or contacting a stone or stucco siding professional near you.
