Aggregate Concrete Considerations - Wholesale Supplier's

Aggregate concrete is fairly simple to create and is ideal for most flatwork. Aggregate concrete is a mixture of concrete and a decorative coarse aggregate material. Gravel, rock, sand, and stone mixtures are typically used. Aggregate concrete is primarily used because of its durability and skid resistance. There are many projects that benefit from the use of aggregate concrete and there are several things you should consider when using it.

Projects - Any project that uses concrete and resides in an area that is highly trafficked should consider the use of an aggregate. Examples of these projects are sidewalks, driveways, patios, pool decks, plazas, decorative retaining walls, and sound barrier walls. There is minimal maintenance involved with aggregate concrete other than sealing and occasionally cleaning.

Laying Aggregate - Once you have you concrete mix in place you will want to begin revealing the top surface of your aggregate. The simplest way to do this is to brush and wash. Wash away the mortar that is covering the aggregate and scrub. This step should be done once the mortar can be chipped away without dislodging the aggregate. You can also sandblast or shotblast to expose the aggregate if desired. Although, blasting can crack the aggregate and/or make it dull.

Sealing - It is highly advisable to apply a transparent concrete sealer to your aggregate mix after everything has thoroughly dried. The sealer will improve the performance and appearance of your project, and protect from spalling, dusting, freeze damage, stains, salts, and abrasion.

Combining a simple concrete mix with an aggregate is a wonderful way to style and stabilize any flatwork project. Protect and create a skid proof surface for your driveway or pool patio with an aggregate. Laying aggregate concrete is not a simple task. Contact a local concrete professional if you need assistance with your project.
