Kitchen Sink, Faucet and Disposal Considerations

The water source and food disposal system in the kitchen is not only a focal point, but the most strenuously used part of the kitchen. Kitchen sinks offer the ability to add an elegant touch to the kitchen, but must also serve as the place to easily provide water, wash dishes and get rid of waste. A focus should be placed on the best sink functionally for your kitchen, then personalize with basin and other component options. For that reason we should think this area in its 3 primary components: the sink, the faucet and the disposal.

Kitchen Sinks - The most common materials used in modern kitchen sinks are stainless steel and cast iron. Stainless steel sinks offer a wide variety of cost options depending on their chemical composition, with the higher end sinks providing greater resistance to stains and spotting. These often nicely compliment newly installed stainless steel appliances. Cast iron sinks have been around for ages and today's products provide both durability and an attractive appearance. Many cast iron sinks are created with deep basins for additional work room. Choose a sink with up to 3 basins to create the most efficient water and disposal system for your kitchen.

Faucets - As with any other fixture, faucets provide you with many options marrying design and function. Ornate faucets are easy to find and install, using modern materials such as stainless steel and spun nickel. More functional faucets are also available providing pull out capabilities to make cleaning up easier, as well as more advanced functions such as stream control.

Garbage Disposals - Disposals are an item not to skimp on when constructing your kitchen sink. The cost of fixing the problems they can cause will often outweigh any upfront savings. Find a disposal made by a reputable manufacturer, made from stainless steel, and insulated to keep the noise down. Make sure to always be careful of what is placed in your sink disposal, and try to find the product that will take care of the rest.

The sink is a critical part of your kitchen. When replacing it, think about the way your kitchen is and will be used and choose the components that will add to the overall kitchen design, and provide you a workspace that makes the process of cleaning up as painless as possible.
