The Department of Energy (DOE)The Department of Energy (DOE) - One of the DOE's primary goals is to promote the United State's energy security by promoting clean, reliable and affordable energy while cleaning up the hazardous by-products of legacy energy use. Through the backing of programs aimed at promoting and financing innovation, the DOE continues to improve the environment and encourage safer energy-efficient practices that serve national economic and security interests.

The DOE Office of Energy-Efficiency and Renewable Resources (EERE) Works closely with the building industry and manufacturers to develop technologies and practices to improve or build more energy-efficient homes and multi-household buildings through multiple programs and educational services - (i.e. EERE Building Technologies Program; EERE Weatherization Assistance Program; EERE Consumer Information Service)

EERE Programs -

  • EnergyStar is a DOE backed program that serves to encourage businesses and individuals to use more efficient-energy practices in order to protect the environment. According to the DOE, EnegryStar continues to be a success. In 2007, EnergyStar program has conserved enough energy to generate electricity for 10 million homes, reduce greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 12 million cars, save American's $6 billion.
  • Energy TechNet - DOE funded collection of information and resources for anyone engaged in developing and commercializing advanced energy technologies.
  • The Industrial Technologies Program (ITP) manages the efforts of the EERP to partner with US Industries for advancements of energy efficient technologies and reduction of environmental impacts through coordinated research and development.
  • Building Technologies Program develops and manages partnerships and private companies, local and state government bodies, education institution and the scientific community to improve energy efficiency of buildings, materials and building practices.
  • The Weatherization Assistance Program empowers low-income households to reduce energy bills by providing financial support for energy efficient upgrades. Over 5.6 million houses have had some level of green improvements supported by this program.
