Design Corner - Entertaining - Thanksgiving Day

thanksgivingdayThanksgiving is all about food and family. It is an amazing time of year when loved ones get together to be thankful of eachother and all the good things in ones life. Good food, good friends, beautiful food is what this evening of overstuffed bellies and football entail. It is filled with soft candles and rich earthy colors. Thanksgiving captures the feeling of fall with the crisp autumn air and the rich earth colors of the changing leaves.

Colors - Thanksgiving happens every year in November which lies in the heart of the fall months. So when decorating for a Thanksgiving dinner you definitely want to incorporate fall colors. This will be your deep reds, oranges, and browns. All colors that inspire an appetite go figure, because that is what Thanksgiving night is all about, Food. You will definitely want to design your table in the most formal dinning area in the house. This is one of the few times a year when sitting and eating with the family is a must, so you want to use your best china and linens for this special night.

Decorations - Pumpkins, Indian corn, and Cornucopia are great tabletop decorations because they really captivate fall with their rustic looks. It is good to go with a neutral table cloth, like a black, brown, or ivory. This will create a block of color that will be a nice backdrop for your decorative table runner. Remember to have fun with the table-runner. It should be in place to add a pop of color. Try using a vibrant color like red, or something with a sparkly metallic feel. Don't be scared to go to bold because there will be so much food and drink on the table it will only peak through in some parts so use a table runner and bold as possible.

Food - The main decoration on the table will of course be the food. Traditional Thanksgiving dishes are so beautiful in themselves you do not want to overdo with much else. The BIRD!!! of course being the center piece. You may want to accent with small fall colored flowers here and there, but keep the food the main focal point. Have lots of candles lit around the house and space because the warm golden light they let off just give a perfect Thanksgiving glow. Make sure not to use scented candles because you want the food to be the main aromas that fill the space. Keep the lighting low enough to see the food. Low lighting make guests feel more comfortable and at ease.

Thanksgiving is a time of thanks. Make sure you bless and thank all your loved ones in joining in with you to celebrate a holiday with such an important message behind it. Last, do not forget to have plenty of beer and wine for the football games after dinner.
