Retirement signifies the time to relax after a long career of working hard. You will want this party to revolve around the person retiring. You will want to incorporate their favorite things. For example, if the person retiring loves golf and plans to spend many upcoming days on the golf course have your party with a golf theme. When it comes to common themes for parties you can usually find everything from plates, tablemats and cake toppers to go along with your chosen theme.
Decorations - When choosing the decorations for your party you will want to think real hard on what the retiree enjoys. You will want to use decorations that bring back memories as well as make them think of the exciting things to come. You will want to choose decorations that will make this special person smile. For example, if the retiree is retiring from being a fireman then incorporate the color red and having a cake decorated with the cities firehouse medallion is sure to bring a tear of joy to their eye. This party is all about how the person spent their entire life working really hard so you will definitely want to make them feel special at all causes.
Food and Drinks - Food and drinks are always a major component at any party. And again you will want to think of the person you are celebrating and serve their favorites. If it is NOT a surprise party do not be afraid to ask the retiree what they wish for you to serve. Catering is also a great option, depending on the size of your party, so that you and your guest can enjoy the actual party and not worry about cooking, cleaning and serving. It is traditional to have a cake at a retirement party. Personalizing the cake with a remembrance for the retiree will always make them feel extra special and show that you truly did go the extra mile.
Location - Choosing a location for your Retirement party is completely up to you. Usually people choose to do a house party. Pray for good weather so you can have the party inside and outside. Having a retirement party in the warmer months is always a plus so you have the option of doing a backyard BBQ and the kids have an area to run around and play, if they are invited of course.
