memorialdayMemorial weekend offers many reasons to celebrate. Summer has begun with pools opening, kids finishing school, and most important a long weekend for the adults! Following these few key ingredients is sure to make your Memorial weekend a splash!

Red, White, and Blue - Most of us think to save our patriotic colors of red, white, and blue for Fourth of July week only. However, Memorial weekend is a time to raise those flags high as well. You can find anything from plates, forks, streamers, table cloths and balloons in a patriotic theme. It is very hard to over-do decorating for parties so don't be afraid to add too much color to your house or backyard. Investing in durable red or blue plates or silverware is a great idea to use for both festive holidays for the years to come.

We must always remember Veterans when celebrating Memorial weekend. Raising the American flag is a perfect way to honor those who fought so bravely for the freedom our country enjoys. When hanging a flag remember to hang it properly, this flag represents the freedom of our country. You will want to make sure your flag is always clean and hung upright and it is said to be disrespectful if you let an American flag touch the ground.

Hot dogs, Hamburgers, and Corn on the Cob - Food is a staple ingredient for any party. Great food attracts many friends and ensures they leave happy with full bellies. BBQ's and firing up the grill are traditional on this fun-filled weekend. You should prepare by cleaning your grill and having charcoal or propane. Traditional BBQ food is most popular on this weekend such as hot dogs, hamburgers and corn on the cob, but don't be afraid to try something new, like BBQ chicken.

A great way to get everyone involved in the party is to ask everyone to bring their favorite side dishes or deserts. No BBQ party is complete without macaroni salads, coleslaw, chips and dip. Don't be afraid to ask your friends to pitch in with feeding all the hungry swimmers and campers.

Games, Games, and more Games - Because this holiday is supposed to bring families together there is sure to be energetic kids running around everywhere. If you are among the lucky people that have a pool in their backyard, make sure you are fully stocked with water floats and blow up toys. You can find anything from baby floats to lounging air rafts to remote control drink floats. If you do not have a pool you can buy baby pools for the adults to dip their feet in or sprinklers and slip-n-slides for the kids. Another great idea for backyard games is a water balloon toss over the pool or a bike parade for the kids. This is sure to keep them busy for hours.

Summer is a wonderful time for everyone to get involved with each other and have some fun. Never forget the reason we have this special weekend, it is to celebrate and honor the men and women who have bravely fought for our country. Raise your glasses and your flags high to these strong great Americans.
