Design Corner - Entertaining - Halloween

halloweenGhosts, Goblins, and Witches…..oh my! When I hear words like this the first thing that comes to mind is Halloween. Halloween means "All Hallows Eve", which means the day of the dead. It is said to be the most magical night of the year because it is the day we celebrate the spirits of the ones that have gone before us.

Halloween Icons - There are many images that represent Halloween. One of the most famous icons of the holiday would have to be the jack-o-lantern. When planning a Halloween party anything representing a jack-o-lantern would be a wonderful place to start with decorations. A jack-o-lantern can be created by simply carving a pumpkin and placing a tea light candle inside to illuminate the cuts you have made. Traditionally these carved pumpkins would be placed in window sills and front porches. A fun idea for your Goblin and Witch dressed guests would be for them to carve their own small personal pumpkin that they are able to take with them as a party favor to put in their own windows at home.

Decorations - You can decorate your house in anything from crepe paper streamers with black and orange balloons to turning it into a full fledged house of horror with evil lurking around every corner. Kids or no kids this is a fun evening for everyone. It is the only time of year you are able to walk around in masks and pretend you are someone you are not. You can make believe you are anyone you want this one night of the year!

Candles - Candles placed strategically throughout your house will definitely add to the ambiance of an eerie evening. Place candles behind some figurines and watch the shadows dance on the walls. Make sure to keep the lighting low to give your guests the creepy feeling you get while in the dark.

Costumes, creepy crawly decorations, spike the blood red punch and you are totally in the making of horrific evening! Also, don't forget the candy for trick-or-treaters, which only add to the experience of the whole evening. This day is all about fun, freaks, and celebrating loved ones that have crossed to the other side.
