When designing a workshop you will always want to keep organization in mind. When you know where all your tools are it makes a job go much smoother. Being organized is vital if you wish to work quickly and efficiently. It will help keep you stress free when working on your projects as well.
Shelving and cabinetry - These are probably the best way to stay organized. The cabinets or shelves in your room will take up the majority of space. You will need to determine the space for the workshop based on your skill set and the types of projects. The best spaces to use as a workshop will be your basement or garage. You do not want to be distracting the rest of the house and you do not want the rest of the house distracting you. Once you choose the proper space then you will need to access the size of the cabinets and shelving you will install. Make sure you save ample amount of room for counter space to be able move around. Shelving can be made of anything from wood to metal. Just make sure you choose a durable material.
Lighting - This will be very important for a workshop. You will need ample lighting so you can clearly see what you are working on. Since your workshop will most likely be in your basement or garage you will want to install a lot of light fixtures. Fluorescent lighting will be the best option for the most comfortable lighting in your work area.
Paint - Shades of gray work best because they are not too dark, which can make you feel claustrophobic, and it is not too light where you will see every mark on the wall. Your workshop is usually not for entertaining so practicality trumps aesthetics in this space.
Organization and having enough electrical outlets will be the key when planning your workshop space. Think of your needs and what would help you to make your projects more enjoyable. Your workshop space will surely come together to fit your needs.
