When your child becomes a teenager they will be have an opinion on the décor of their bedroom. Their room is a place in the house where they can call their own. Teens can be tricky so definitely let them be involved in the decorating process. You take care of the fundamentals and then let them add their creative touches.

Paint - Colors for this room you will want to use a neutral tone. Your teens will more than likely have wall hangings and pictures. You do not want it to be too chaotic with a brighter colored paint on the walls. If they insist on adding more colors, try talking them into a vibrant accent wall. It will add the perfect pop of color without being too busy. Neutrals colors can be anything from an ivory to soft beige. You definitely can still add personality with neutrals.

Lighting - The lighting in a teenager's room you will probably want to be basic. Keep it simple with a soft halogen bulb in a ceiling fan. A table lamp next to their bed will help them study. The amount of light utilized in a teen's bedroom will be up to them. You may try installing a dimmer switch to give them more options. Keep the window treatments on the lighter side so they are still able to let in natural light in the mornings. Which will encourage those sleepy teens to get up out of bed.

Accessories - This section will probably be up to your teenager. It will probably consist of some photo frames with pictures of friends, posters of their celebrity crush, and childhood memorabilia. Organize their room with decorative bins that can slide under their bed or placed on a shelf. There should be a distinct place for your teen to put their dirty laundry. This can possibly be a hamper in their closet or next to the door. Letting your child have their own personality while decorating their room will give them pride in their space, and hopefully they will keep it clean and tidy.

Furniture - The most important thing to remember when choosing furniture for your teenager's room is to keep it basic and durable. There will be a heavy amount of traffic due to the hectic schedules of teens these days and you want to choose pieces that will last a long time. Depending how many children you have in the room you will want to consider getting your teen a queen size bed. It makes them feel more like an adult and therefore, hopefully more responsible. Provide your teen with a desk in an area that will encourage better study habits. School is important in your teen's life, so anyway you are able to make the study process easier and more accessible should be encouraged.

Teens may be a challenge at times, but seeing them grow up so quick makes all the hard work worth it. Giving your teen a space they can call their own is important for their well-being. Get them involved and they are sure to be happy with the result.
